A group of local volunteers gathered at Jaycee Park this week and removed more than 20 bags of trash, including a shopping cart pulled from the creek, in about an hour. Organizers shared that the strong turnout has inspired plans to continue clean-up efforts on the first Sunday of every month, with additional opportunities for community involvement coming soon. Residents interested in helping keep Gainesville clean are encouraged to watch for future announcements. |

GISD will hold its Board of Trustees election on Saturday, May 2, 2026. The three trustee positions on the ballot are Place 1 (Latecia Hendricks), Place 2 (Marvin Royal), and Place 3 (Dan Doss), each serving a three-year term. Candidate filing is open through February 13, with packets available at the GISD Administration Building, 900 N. Grand Avenue. Early voting will take place April 20–28, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Gainesville Civic Center. Community members are encouraged to stay informed, consider participating, and take part in this local election. |

Gainesville Golf is officially reopening following winter weather. The course will be open Saturdays and Sundays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cart use is path-only until further notice, and golf carts are first-come, first-served. Tee times can be scheduled by calling 940-668-4560. Community members are encouraged to get back out on the greens and enjoy the reopening.

Cowgirl Mercantile will host a Sip & Shop + Book Club event Friday evening, beginning at 5 p.m., at its downtown location, 419 N. Commerce Street. From 5:00–6:00 p.m., guests are invited to sip, browse the store, and shop at their own pace. The book club discussion begins at 6:00 p.m. and will focus on Run, Rose, Run. The gathering is designed to be relaxed and welcoming—community members are encouraged to attend whether they’ve finished the book, plan to listen in, or simply want to enjoy a casual evening downtown.
Cowgirl Mercantile will host a Stuff-A-Plush Party on Saturday, February 21, beginning at 12 p.m., at its downtown location, 419 N. Commerce Street. The family-friendly event invites kids to create their own stuffed animal, complete with a heart-beat keepsake placed inside their plush. While children enjoy the hands-on activity, parents and grandparents can browse the shop’s Western kids’ clothing and other offerings. The event is designed to be relaxed and welcoming, giving families an easy way to spend time together while supporting local businesses.
Cowgirl Mercantile will host a Pancakes & Mimosas shopping event, inviting the community to enjoy a relaxed morning of shopping, food, and connection. The event will feature a local mini-pancake pop-up, mimosas while you browse, and new arrivals throughout the store. Shoppers are encouraged to stop by, support local vendors, and enjoy an easy, feel-good start to the day.

Vantage Point Art Gallery will host a Gel Print Tea Party on Saturday, February 14, from 12:00–2:00 p.m., at 107 W. California Street. The hands-on class will be led by artist Shawn Martin and introduces participants to gel plate printing and collage techniques in a relaxed, tea-party setting. Open to ages 10 and up, the class is beginner-friendly with all supplies provided. Participants will experiment with layers, textures, and prints while enjoying tea and light treats. The cost is $35 per person, and space is limited.

Saint Joe’s Pizza will host a Paint Party on Monday, February 23, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at its downtown location, 207 N. Commerce Street. The guided painting event, hosted by Crafty Door Creations, offers participants a choice between two designs—a black bunny or a spring chickadee—with all supplies included. No painting experience is required. Seats are limited, and early registration discounts are available through February 2. Community members are encouraged to attend for a creative night out supporting local businesses.

Frank Buck ZoFrank Buck Zoo is celebrating Valentine’s Day with its annual Zoo Valentine fundraiser, running February 4–14. Community members can sponsor a Valentine for a favorite zoo animal with a $20 donation, which supports daily animal care, enrichment, and wellbeing. This seasonal fundraiser offers a fun way to share the love while supporting one of Gainesville’s most beloved attractions.
We will celebrate Frank Buck’s Birthday on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at 1000 W. California Street. Admission will be just $3 for everyone throughout the day. Visitors can enjoy animal chats and encounters scheduled throughout the event, with a birthday cake cutting at 1:00 p.m. Free cake will be available while supplies last, and last tickets will be sold at 3:00 p.m. It’s a fun, affordable way for the community to celebrate a piece of Gainesville history and spend the day at the zoo.

Another Night Market in the works!
The County Seat Kitchen & Cocktails will kick off its 2026 Sip N Shop season on Saturday, March 21, from 6:00–9:00 p.m., in Historic Downtown Gainesville. The open-air market will take place along the 100 North block of Dixon Street (at California) and is free to attend. The evening will feature 35+ local vendors offering handmade goods, boutique finds, gifts, and home décor, along with craft cocktails, cold beer, and burgers available for purchase on site. DJ Dawodu will provide live music throughout the night, creating a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere perfect for a night out downtown. The City of Gainesville Government will host Public Information Workshop #2 on Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Gainesville Civic Center, 311 S. Weaver Street.
